Benefits of a Home NAS Part 2
Here is an article from Josh Saddlers blog about his decision making process for either a building your own or buying a NAS device. In this article he reviews file serving types, filesystems, interface, and media serving capabilities.
I have personally had experience with the QNAP and Western Digital products. Not that I endorse any one manufacturer but I must admit QNAP is refined, loaded with features, and provided excellent network and file-sharing support. I setup a QNAP T219 for a client as a home backup and media server solution. It serves data to 3 PC’s, an Asus O’Play and performs backups. We installed 2 x 1TB drives and it just works!
